My project FREE ART! for the Hambidge Creative Hive at Colony Square consisted of three parts. The first part was my personal interpretation of the transformation and evolution of all the Hives. I made dozens of 17” x 22” prints of these photographs and posted them during the month of April 2017 on kiosks in the food court in Colony Square with signs that said “FREE ART! Please Take One”. Most were taken in just a few hours or days.

During April I also had a portrait studio set up where I photographed anyone passing by. Within a week, I made 8.5” x 11” prints of my favorite from our session and gave them to the person. The only stipulation was that they had to come back to my Hive studio to pick them up. I wanted them to make a return trip to Colony Square and, hopefully, spend a few minutes seeing the continued changes in the other Hives.

The final part of FREE ART!            was a series of environmental portraits of all the Hive artists in their spaces. Like the first part, these were printed 17” x 22” and hung on the kiosks. They’re on display for the final week of the Creative Hive and after that I’ll be giving them to all the artists. This is my way of thanking them for welcoming me into their lives and projects.
